War. Famine. Death. Pestilence. These were the names given to Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen when the mutant reigned over ancient Egypt. When he rises again inX-Men: Apocalypse, he’ll have Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Archangel (Ben Hardy) by his side. All four take center stage as they unite in new apocalyptic posters.
Closer examination of these images reveals some details that tease each of their roles in the film. Piles of human bones and crows fill out the image for Archangel, while the caption reads “savage, dark, fallen.” He’s presumably the Horsemen of Death. Then there’s Psylocke, who stands atop of mound of dead rats, seemingly a symbol of Pestilence, and images of men throwing their arms up in anger tease Storm’s role as War. This leaves Magneto as a symbol of Famine, though you may have a different interpretation.

Apocalypse, played byOscar Isaac, recruits these mutants when he awakens in the present and finds his race at the mercy of homo sapiens. Their abilities — Magneto’s magnetism, Storm’s weather control, Angel’s new Archangel wings, and Psylocke’s psionic abilities — are all greatly heightened under their servitude. As further previewed inthe recent featurette, his Four Horsemen herald the End of Days as Apocalypse plans to wipe out all of humanity and forge a new world in his image.
