Today it has been announced that Peacock has ordered a sketch comedy special from A24 calledWould it Kill You to Laugh? Starring Kate Berlant & John Earlyto premiere on the platform later this summer. The hour-long special will star the comedy duo ofKate BerlantandJohn Early.
The pair have frequently collaborated with each other on a number of comedy projects. Most notably the pair starred in and created555, a Vimeo miniseries, which saw the pair improving a series of short stories together. Recently, Early starred in the AppleTV+ seriesThe Afterpartyand has starred in the seriesSearch Partysince 2016. Berlant has had a recurring role onSearch Partyand will be in the upcomingA League of their Ownseries from Prime Video. Berlant has also made appearances in films likeSorry to Bother You,Once Upon a Time…. In Hollywood, and will be in the upcoming filmDon’t Worry Darling. The special is also said to feature an appearance byMeredith Vieira, the Emmy-winning host of the NBC morning news showToday,and game shows likeWho Wants to Be a Millionaire.
The comedy special will see the duo of Berlant and Early playing comedically exaggerated versions of themselves many years after having a very public falling out. Berlant and Early are also said to be playing a variety of other hilarious characters in the special.

Would it Kill You to Laugh? Starring Kate Berlant & John Earlywill be directed byAndrew DeYoungwho previously worked with Berlant and Early on555and has previously directed episodes for shows likeShrill,Pen15, andOur Flag Means Death. The trio of Berlant, Early, and DeYoung will also be co-writers and executive producers on the comedy special. The special is being produced by A24.
In a statement announcing the special,Katie Hockmeyer, EVP, Late Night Programming & Comedy Specials, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming, said:
