Fans have heard the horror stories ofGleefor decades. No one really knows what went on behind the scenes, but it all seemed messy. At the center of the series was the star,Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry throughout the show’s six-season run. But theRyan Murphyproduction was constantly swirling with rumors, andit led to an obsession for fansof the show. Now, ten years afterGleecame to an end, Michele is talking about what filming the hit series was like.
Michele is currently preparing to go on tour after playing Fanny Brice in theBroadway production ofFunny Girl,a literal plot point for her character onGlee. Andin preparation for said tour, Michele did an interview withJakeShaneon his podcast,Therapuss with Jake Shane. There, the two talked aboutwhat ended up dividing the cast ofGlee. During Season 5 of the series, Michele’s then boyfriend (and on-screen boyfriend)Cory Monteithtragically died of an overdose. Monteith played Finn Hudson, who was with Rachel Berry and was a core part of the series. Talking with Shane, Michele opened up about how his passing hit the cast.

Michelle saidthat grieving Monteithso publicly “was so sad, it was so depressing,” and went on to talk about how she wasn’t allowed to “stop” and grieve. Shane then asked if that helped get the cast to all band together and Michele said it did the opposite. “No, I think it really fractured so much. I mean again, I can’t speak for everyone, I think in some ways it did for certain people, but I think that … for me it was so hard toI just completely broke.” Michele did thank the cast and crew for “holding me up so much.” But also said “a lot of [the original cast] weregone by then which was hard.” The original cast of the series was still very much part of the who but some of her fellow castmates, who she startedGleewith, had transitioned from series regulars to recurring guest stars.
Lea Michele Teases a Tell-All Book Some Day
While her fellow co-stars like the lateNaya Riverahave already published books detailing her own experience onGlee, Michele’s doesn’t get into everything thathappened on set. She told Shane that she wished fans knew about everything that happened on the set. “Literally everything …we were all so youngand everybody was growing up and falling in love and for me that was a huge part of the whole experience for me … was my, this great love."
Michele was referring to her relationship with Monteith. “It was so unbelievable that you would be watching the show and when I watch it I can tell you exactly … I’d be like ‘Oh, that day I was sobbing in my dressing room.’ Or, ‘That day was the best day in the world’ … But the only people that know all of that were the people who were in that room.”

You can see Michele on her “intimate” North American tour or on older episodes ofGlee, currently streaming on Hulu.
