At the beginning of the year, a new medical procedural took an already famous story and flipped it on its head whenWatsonpremiered on CBS. Now, 13 episodes later, and we’ve finally reached the first season conclusion, which partly tied up some major character beefs. Thankfully for fans, theMorris Chestnut-led project was not one of the many titles from the network to receive the axe, withWatsonset to unfurl more medical mysteries with Season 2. During its debut run, audiences were treated to an onslaught of recognizable names from across the stories first brought to life bySir Arthur Conan Doylein the books within the universe of Sherlock Holmes. When it comes to who else might pop up down the line, executive producer,Craig Sweeny, has some terrific news for those eager for more modern-day crossovers.
During an interview with TV Insider, Sweeny primarily kept his secrets to himself, but still dropped some breadcrumbs surrounding upcoming appearances, teasing,“There will be, yes.But I don’t want to do any reveals just yet.” The executive producer was, however, open to sharing a tidbit of information about an already existing character, adding,

“This is not a reveal, but I am excited that we have, I really love the performer who plays Lestrade on our show, and I’m excited to explore that relationship more in Season 2.”
‘Watson’s Future Ties To Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Without spoilingtoomuch (though you may want to stop reading here and watch the Season 1 finale first), Season 2 will seeWatsonin need of a new big bad — a position previously held byRandall ParkasMoriarty. As for what name from the Sherlock Holmes universe fans can anticipate, Sweeny teased that it might not be someone they’re expecting, as the creative team is looking and thinking outside the box.
“So what I like about our plan in Season 2 is that we’re definitely not saying that no more villains from the Holmes universe appear, but we are creating a paradigm that includes Conan Doyle’s world without saying the premise is always what villain appears this year. So there is a really strong Holmesian storyline, but our plan is not to say, oh, this is Gruner or Milverton. Not to say that we won’t do that in time, but we wanted to sort of open up the paradigm of a new kind of storytelling within that universe in Season 2. So that’s our approach there.”

Season 1 ofWatsonis now streaming on Paramount+.
