Seth Ridley(Patrick Keleher), one of TV’s most infamous liars, returned in last night’s episode ofThe RookieSeason 7. Unfortunately, the ending of “The Return” left him broken, physically and emotionally. Though his comeback seemed promising, with his training spot reinstated, a legal payout (assuming this wasn’t another lie), and a surprise engagement to Tamara Collins (Dylan Conrique), it all came crashing down in the final moments. In addition to his career now in jeopardy, Seth lost the woman he loved after Tamara finally saw him for who he was. Keleher has now weighed in on what the fallout means for Seth and Tamara’s future.

Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of Seth’s arc in this week’s episode is how it finally vindicates Lucy (Melissa O’Neil), his former TO. Lucy can now trust her instincts more, as her long-held suspicions about Seth are confirmed. Though her honesty nearly cost her Tamara’s friendship, Tamara now sees that Lucy was only trying to protect her. After losing his left leg while saving John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a vulnerable Seth finally confesses his lies to Tamara, and her reaction was to be expected. She calls it quits with Seth, but despite the broken engagement, Keleher maintains that both characters are meant for each other, and reveals a cut opening scene of the two characters that underscored their chemistry:

“I think there’s hope. They’re great together. There wasa scene that was cut. There was an opening scene where Tamara and Seth arrived at the police station, and it was the very opening of the episode, and you justget to see their chemistry a little bit more, and they’re great together. Dylan is such an awesome person. I really got along well with her. So I’d like to see more, just as a friendship. Even if it’s not a relationship, I think they work well together, and especially that drug bust that they did. It’s cool. They’re a good team.”

Is Patrick Keleher Leaving ‘The Rookie’?

Seth’s storyline this week carried a sense of finality, and the ending might just be how the show intends to bid farewell to the character. He was one of two rookies introduced in Season 7, but while we’re certain that the other rookie, Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) will be involved in an even bigger way inSeason 8followinghis promotion to series regular, Seth’s future remains unclear. If this is his exit, then it likely kills any hopes of a reconciliation with Tamara. Keleher also confirmed that his character won’t return this season and admitted he has “no idea” if a redemptive arc lies ahead.

Could Seth return with prosthetics, turn over a new leaf, and win Tamara back, or is this how audiences bid farewell toThe Rookie’s most unforgettable liar? With the finale approaching, answers may come soon, so stay tuned for updates.
