Who you gonna call?Well, theGhostbusters, of course! The horror-comedy franchise celebrated its 40th anniversary last year and has been back in the public eye thanks to the duo of recent legacy films. WithGhostbusters: AfterlifeandGhostbusters: Frozen Empireresurrecting the haunting series, a new wave of merchandise has been making us break out Proton Packs. This has included apparel collections, action figures from Hasbro, and Funko Pops.NowFunkois back with a brand-new wave of Pops based onGhostbusters II.
TheGhostbusters IIcollection includes five ghostly figures, including all four Ghostbusters in their updated sequel outfits.Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman,Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz,Harold Ramis’ Egon Spengler, and Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore are ready to make bustin' feel good again. As usual, there are a lot of great details in these figures, with Ray and Winston using the slime cannons from the film. The last Pop in the line isGhostbuster II’s villain, Vigo. The demonic painting has a mean pose and is ready to make New York City his new hellish playground. Even though Funko has made an endless number ofGhostbustersPops over the years, including ones for the original 1984 classic,Frozen EmpireandThe Real Ghostbusters, it’s nice to see the first sequel getting some love. Hopefully, if these do well, Funko can release moreGhostbusters IIfigures forSigourney Weaver’s Dana andRick Moranis’ Louis.

‘Ghostbusters II’s Reappraised Legacy
WhileGhostbusterswas one of the mostbeloved filmsto come out of the 1980s with its great blend of horror and laugh-out-loud gags,Ghostbusters IIoriginallydidn’t have that same goodwillthrown at it. You could blame a five-year gap between films as the main reason why, butthe sequel was way more kid-friendly than its predecessor. The adult humor was toned down a lot, the horror was brightened up a bit, and the Ghostbusters being relegated to party entertainment at the beginning of the film didn’t help it get off on the right foot with moviegoers.
However, now that fans of the film have grown up and have families of their own, a cloud of slimynostalgiahas helpedGhostbusters IIfinally have its day in the sun. It’s not as memorable or masterful as the original by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s a lot of creativity packed into this delightfully spooky adventure. The ensemble cast was as charming as ever, there were some generally creepy ghosts and moments in the third act,and the Statue of Libertyfinale showdownwith Vigo was a standout. Also, beforeAfterlifein 2021, this was the last time we saw this version of the iconic team on screen.
