The onslaught ofThe Dark Towermoviecoverage continues. Over the past few days, our first official looks atIdris Elba’sprotagonist Roland DeschainandMatthew McConaughey’svillainous Randall Flagghave arrived along with a slew of information about the long-awaited film adaptation ofStephen King’s beloved book series.Ron HowardandBrian Grazertried for years to get a feature film adaptation ofThe Dark Toweroff the ground, but the source material proved so unwieldy that the only way they could think to do it was with a trilogy of films and two seasons of a limited TV series interspersed between. However, as we learned yesterday, this new iteration ofThe Dark Towerunder the direction ofNikolaj Arcelis taking a different route: it’s a sequel.
Indeed, the new film will be a continuation of King’s story focusing on Roland’s final cycle in his quest to reach the aforementioned Dark Tower before it’s destroyed by a threatening force. The film also leaves out fan-favorite characters Eddie Dean and Susannah, although Arcel assured fans that those charactersshouldbe brought in eventually if the film franchise is successful enough to continue.
