InChicago MedSeason 10, Episode 21, “Baby Mine…” Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) discovers she isn’t eligible to be a surrogate for her sister because she’s already pregnant. While the news would be welcomed with open arms in many instances, the discovery presents numerous problems that the gynecologist must deal with inthe season finale. She must inform her sister of the development and figure out who the father is. The obvious answer is Ripley (Luke Mitchell), with whom she was dating, but the show hinted that she might have had a thing with Dean (Steven Webber).

“I think the audience should definitely be questioning [who the father is],” showrunnerAllen MacDonaldtold TV Line while previewing the May 21 finale. For one, Ripley and Hannah’s relationship timeline doesn’t match for a pregnancy, and it was never confirmed whether she and Dean hooked up when he showed up at her door. So when some viewers speculate that “thetimeline with Ripleydoesn’t match up, and the timeline with Archer does, they don’t see everything [that] Hannah’s up to.” It could very well be someone else.

“She’s going to have to tell a few people. She’s going to have to tell her sister, and she’s going to have to tell the baby’s father. So those are the things that are kind of hanging over her head as she goesinto the season finale,” the showrunner said. Hannah lacked the emotions one would associate with finding out she was pregnant — she was neither happy nor unhappy. “I think she’s stunned and shocked, and she didn’t expect this result,” MacDonald said. Even though the show had planted some seeds in earlier episodes, it surprised Hannah. “Maggie (Marlyne Barret) says inthat episode [20], ‘Hannah’s home sick, too. It’s not just the nurses.’ So we’ve been kind of setting it up,” MacDonald confirmed. “But I think even though she’s an OB-GYN, she didn’teven imaginethat that was what it was.”

‘Chicago Med’ Season 10 Finale Explores Charles' Past and Present

This season has been heavy on Charles' (Oliver Platt) history as the show brought back people from his past. FromSarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) to his mother and daughters, his past mistakes have haunted him. The finale deals him another blow as his daughter is brought to the ED. “Charles is lonely, and he’s a great psychiatrist, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is good about his own life and the people in his life,” MacDonald said. “I think he’s made a lot of mistakes, and I think he knows that. … So the idea [for] the end of the season is for him to go to the ultimate source of the well of pain for most people, which is family history, and force him to deal with it, and the accident with Anna is part of that,” he added.

Tune in toChicago Med’s Season 10 finale on Wednesday, May 21, at 8 PM ET and see how everything plays out.
