Last Fall, we reported thatJay Chandrasekhar, the director behindSuper TroopersandBeer Fest, had begun filmingSuper Troopers 2, the crowd-funded sequel to the beloved cult comedy. There were even a few pictures from the set that made the rounds. Well, now, it’s looking like that was mostly pre-production stuff, according to some quotes Chandrasekhar made on a Funemployment Radio episode earlier this year. The director, who also co-stars and co-wrote in the sequel, said that official production would start in August and it turns out that he was just a little bit off.
Today, Chandrasekhar announced via Twitter that the film, centered around a gaggle of wise-ass state troopers in Vermont, has officially begun shooting this morning. On top of that, co-star and co-writerSteve Lemmerecently tweeted an image from the production offices for the film, which includes looks at other members of the Broken Lizard crew likeKevin HeffernanandErik Stolhanske. you’re able to see both tweets below, as well as Chandrasekhar’s comments on why it’s taken awhile to get the production really going. No release date has been set forSuper Troopers 2yet, but it’s looking likely that we will see the film released, in some capacity, in 2017. Here’s hoping that Thorny and the gang’s return is as unique and celebratory as their first adventure in 2002.

Here’s tweets from Chandrasekhar and Lemme announcing recent work on the sequel:
Here’s what Chandrasekahr said about the delay in production via the official website:

We’ve always wanted to make a sequel… but first, we also wanted to run from a killer on an island resort and chug beers against Germans. After that, we had to get permission from the studio, write an awesome script and then wait for lawyers to schedule a shitload of conference calls.
