Having completed nearly a month of release in theaters worldwide,Ryan Coogler’sSinnershas now firmly established itself asone of the highest-grossing horror movies of all time.Sinnershas been delivering record-breaking holds at the box office, especially domestically. However, it’s now clear that the movie hasn’t exactly had the same level of impact in overseas territories. The movie reunites Coogler with his longtime collaborator, starMichael B. Jordan. It also continues a glorious comeback for Warner Bros this year, which was kicked off byA Minecraft Moviesome weeks ago.

With $215 million domestically and $69 million from overseas territories,Sinners’cumulative global haul stands at $283 million. It’ll pass the $300 million milestone in a few days, which would also put it ahead of 2023’s viral sensation,Five Nights at Freddy’s, andJohn Krasinski’s acclaimedA Quiet Place: Part II. It has already overtaken the lifetime global hauls of horror hits such as last year’sA Quiet Place: Day One,The Nun II, and most impressively, the genre classicThe Silence of the Lambs.Sinnersis now among the 20 highest-grossing horror movies in global box office history.

Produced ona reported budget of $90 million, it serves as Coogler’s first original film since his debut,Fruitvale Station. After breaking out with that drama, he directed theRockyrebootCreed, and two Marvel blockbusters —Black Pantherand its sequel,Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.Sinnershas also generated attention for the unusual deal that Coogler struck with W.B., which will see the film’s rights revert to him after a quarter-century. The studio gave the movie a massive roll-out on large-format screens, including venues equipped to present it in the premium IMAX 70 mm format.

‘Sinners’ Is Among the Most Acclaimed Blockbusters in Recent History

Sinnershas been acclaimed forAutumn Durald Arkapaw’s cinematography,Ludwig Göransson’s blues-inspired score, and the thematic depth of Coogler’s writing. It holds a near-perfect 97% score on the aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, in addition to a stellar 96% audience score. The latter has been a crucial factor in establishingSinnersasa cultural phenomenon. Also starringHailee Steinfeld,Jack O’Connell,Delroy Lindo,Wunmi Mosaku,and others, Sinners is playing in theaters.
