We here at Collider are happy to exclusively announce thatSausage Party, one of the funniest films of the year, is heading to home video in November. The highest grossing R-rated animated film of all time will be available on Digital HD on November 1st, with a release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD to follow on November 8th. Moreover, bonus materials for the film include an alternate ending that finds the animated food items crossing over into the real world and confronting their live-action counterparts inSeth Rogen,Michael Cera, andEdward Norton.
Other bonus features include a behind-the-scenes featurette for this alternate ending, a look at how Rogen and Co. finally convinced someone to actually makeSausage Partyafter years of pitching the concept to no avail, a gag reel, “Line-O-Rama”, footage of the voice actors performing improv, and a “Concept Art to Screen” featurette in which fans can go behind the scenes of the character development process and see how the filthy-mouthed food items were drawn to perfection.
Directed byConrad VernonandGreg Tiernanand scripted by Rogen,Kyle Hunter,Ariel Shaffir, andEvan Goldberg,Sausage Partyis a labor-of-love comedy about food items coming to the realization that once they leave the supermarket, they’re not entering “The Great Beyond” but instead are eaten and therefore killed by their human “gods.” As with much of Rogen and Goldberg’s output, the film is hilarious, filthy, sweet, and has something to say, with issues of religion and acceptance tackled within the conceit of this ridiculous story. It’s worth owning for repeat watch value alone, but the addition of these various bonus materials makes the home video release that much sweeter.
