For manyHGTVshows, filming largely features the personalities staying in one location to work on their grand renovations. But forRock the Block, there’s a major secret to the hit competition series:the teams fly back and forth to film.Though the revelation may pull back the curtain for some fans, the fun fact makes complete sense.

Rock the BlockalumniBrian and Mika Kleinschmidtjoined fellowRock the BlockalumniTristyn and Kamohai Kalamaon their podcast,The Deals & Aloha, where they discussed their experience filming and winning Season 2. “When we didRock the Block, it was during COVID, and we were filming Season 2 of our show,” Brian revealed. “So, we were flying back and forth to Atlanta, filmingRock the Block, getting on a red-eye, coming home, filming our show for a couple days, back forRock the Block. I was like,‘Whoa, this is insane.'”

Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama work on their kitchen on ‘Rock the Block’ Season 6.

The Kleinschmidts traveled from Georgia to Florida, while the Kalamas commuted between Hawaii and Utah. Noting they did the same, Kamohai said, “We were filmingRock the Block, fly home, film our show for three days, jump back on a plane, fly up, filmRock the Block. So,we did that whole thing, and it is a lot.” With the secret exposed, it makes the viewing experience quit different now.

The Husbands Want to ‘Rock the Block’ Again

Rock the Block, which just celebrated its sixth triumphant season, follows the best and brightest of HGTV who compete to design four identical properties. Each episode features a different room challenge before the winning team is ultimately crowned based on the home’s overall appraisal. Because each space takes such time to complete, many of the stars fly from location to their base filming spot as they film shows simultaneously.

Rock the Blockis the network’s premiere competition series. Fans love seeing their favorite HGTV stars unite and compete for bragging rights. But it’s not smooth sailing. The Kalamas asked the Kleinschmidts if they would return for another edition of the show, and Mika made it quite clear: she would need therapy. She felt that, having won already, they wouldn’t be able to “top” that. “It’s like, once you’ve done it, you’ve had that moment, we survived it,” she explained. “I’m like, ‘I don’t read my books backwards, and I’m not doing that again.’That chapter is done, written.”

Brian, on the other hand, was a bit more eager. “I would do it again. I love competition. Yes, we won the first time, butI’m not scared of losing, so I would do it again," he said. Kamohai echoed the sentiment as he “would do it again right now, in a second.” The Kalamas may be eager to play again, asmany fans felt they might have been robbed of ultimate victory.Despite winning room challenges and receiving universal high praise, they were defeated byAlison Victoria, on her third appearance, andMichel Smith Boyd, who became the first two-time winner.

HGTV’s Cancellation Bloodbath Spares One Beloved Show — Cue the Celebration

Fans rejoice! Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt have survived the HGTV bloodbath.

Not All HGTV Stars Enjoyed ‘Rock the Block’

This wild revelation sounds brutal, especially as many HGTV personalities have revealed thatRock the Blockis one of the most difficult and grueling filming experiences.Speaking to Collider earlier this year,Page Turnerrevealed that it would take a million dollars to ever return to compete again, even if the fans wanted to see her alongside herLove It or List Itcohost,David Visentin. “He trusts me. You don’t need to do it,” Page said. Meanwhile,Mina Starsiak Hawkhas been on the record thatshe would be eager to try again. The formerGood Boneshost appeared on the first season and has returned as a guest judge on occasion.

With six seasons thus far, the winners have includedJasmine Roth(Season 1), the Kleinschmit (Season 2),Egypt SherrodandMike Jackson(Season 3), Smith Boyd andAnthony Elle(Season 4),Lyndsay LambandLeslie Davis(Season 5), and Victoria and Boyd Smith (Season 6).
