This many episodes in, how much should the show really change things to keep them fresh? If they stick to their formula, the story will get stale quickly, but if they start changing things up, then the story will inevitably have to end at some point....

Saturday Night Livebrought usBenedict Cumberbatchhosting for the second time, with musical guestArcade Fire,and it was a wonderful adventure! There were sketches that highlights Cumberbatch’s comedic timing, a call back to the toilet sketch from his first time there, and we even got a glimpse into what I can only assume is hisSam Elliotimpersonation. That is to say, he played a character who talked way too much about how ice cream made him feel, and he quite literally looked like Elliot while doing so....

Star Trek: Discoveryfinally returns to Paramount+ on Thursday, November 18th for its fourth season. The series that heralded a new era ofTrekfollows mutineer-turned-Starfleet Captain, Michael Burnham, and the Starship USS Discovery as they face a completely changed galaxy after traveling into the future. Discoveryhas consistently takenStar Trekto new heights, featuring a Black woman as the protagonist, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green),and other diverse and queer stories among its supporting cast. While it may not be the series forevery Trekfan,Discoverygoes in bold new directions while still appealing to those who loveStar Treklore, new and old....

If there’s one Hasbro property I honestly thought would have a difficult time finding relevance in the modern era, it’sStretch Armstrong. What was once a novelty toy that was basically an oversized action figure with super-stretchy arms is now a Netflix animated series dubbedStretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters. (I can hear you chuckling.) It would be easy to laugh this one off without giving it a glance, but to do so would be missing out on a fresh, energetic, and unconventional animated series that rebrands the stretchy toy to fit the modern superhero mold....

Amazon Studios has released the new trailer for its “visually stunning” and “groundbreaking drama series"Tales from the Loop,which hails from executive producerMatt Reeves, and is based on the art ofSimon Stålenhag. There’s no question that the show does indeed look visually stunning, but groundbreaking? That’s a big word! There are high expectations that come with the g-word, but hey, I like Amazon’s confidence here, and this show does look pretty cool....

It’s a really, really good time to be a sci-fi fan. The big studios are regularly throwing money at smart, adult-oriented genre films (and the Academy is taking notice) and television is populated with clever spins on time-travel and A.I. In the midst of all those options, not to mention the dreaded “Peak TV”, some of the good stuff is naturally going to slip under the radar. But hear this rallying cry: get on board withThe Expanse, because if you like immersive, unapologetically science-based science fiction, it’s too good to miss....

After numerous delays, the need for speed is boiling over asTop Gun: Mavericknears its May 27 premiere.
