More recently, actorAdam Scottrevealed that he’d studied Cruise while filming an elaborate oner for the opening episode of the second season ofSeverance, which counts Stiller as an executive producer and a director. This weekend, Cruise and Stiller’s most iconic franchises clashed at the global box office, withMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoningovertaking the lifetime global haul of Stiller’s firstNight at the Museumhit.

In doing so,The Final Reckoningalso entered a rather special list. It’s nowone of the 200 highest-grossing movies in global box office history. However, this achievement comes with a large asterisk, asThe Final Reckoning’s massive budget prevents it from being described as a bona fide hit. The movie hasgrossed around $195 million domestically and $585 million at the worldwide box office, but against a budget that is said to be as high as $400 million. In fact, it cost more than what most films, includingNight at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, gross in their lifetime runs at the box office. The third installment of the Night at the Museum franchise generated around $350 million worldwide, against a reported budget of $127 million.

It was the lowest-grossing installment in the franchise; the first film, on the other hand, made around $580 million globally in 2006. Its sequel,Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, grossed a little over $400 million worldwide. Each of the three movies was directed byShawn Levy, who went on to make the billion-dollar hitDeadpool & Wolverinelast year. Earlier this month, it was reported thatLevy is producing a reboot of the franchise, set to feature new characters and new historical figures. The original trilogy was famous for its sprawling ensemble of popular stars, which includedOwen Wilson,Rami Malek, and the late, greatRobin Williams.

The Night at the Museum Movies Have Become Favorites on Home Video

The originalNight at the Museummovie followed a security guard at the American Museum of Natural History, who discovers that the exhibits come to life at night. Themovie earned mixed reviews, but hasbecome something of a home video favoritein the years since its release.
