Put your hands in the air and wave ‘em like you just don’t care — except wedocare a great deal about this news. You’ll never have to drink alone again becauseMahas officially been given the greenlight for a sequel. It’s been a weirdly long uphill battle (considering the original movie’s budget compared to its earnings), but the time has finally come, with Blumhouse announcing that a follow-up to the iconic 2019 horror movie is on the way. Not only that, but Academy Award-winnerOctavia Spenceris set to reprise her role as the titular terror — also known as Sue Ann.
In a statement paired with the announcement, Blumhouse’s founder and CEO,Jason Blum, said,

“Mahas proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance as Ma. Ma likes to say ‘don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled Octavia will join us again for a second round.”
As of right now, Spencer is the only original cast member set to reprise her role for the follow-up, but we’d love to see our queen,Juliette Lewis, back for another shot (pun intended) at the psychological thrill fest. Other members of the original cast includeDiana Silvers(Space Force),Luke Evans(Beauty and the Beast),Gianni Paolo(Power),McKaley Miller(Hart of Dixie),Missi Pyle(Gone Girl), and more. While a handful of characters met their demise in the original movie, there’s always a chance that they could return through flashbacks or just good old-fashioned twists and turns. After all, when we last saw Spencer’s character, it looked like she was about to meet her end, and here she is, ready to raise a glass and get the party started all over again.

What Is ‘Ma’ About?
Plainly put, Sue Anne — who was given the nickname Ma by a group of teenagers —is about the party life. The movie follows Spencer’s titular character, who befriends acrew of high school studentsand provides them alcohol and a safe space to party (which is just her house). Things get weird really quickly after Ma begins to insert herself into the teens' lives, even going so far as to get upset when they have other things on their schedules. As it would turn out, Ma’s real reason behind her seemingly caring exterior is that of revenge for events that happened to her when she was a teen.
As of right now, no further information has been released surrounding theMasequel, but stay tuned to Collider for more to come.
