With the Japanese premiere of5 Centimeters Per Secondinching closer and closer, fans are getting news about thelive-action adaptationon a regular basis. This week, the movie’s official website unveiled the first poster for the movie which, quite simply, showcases the two protagonists looking like they are far apart,and the iconic cherry blossom treecan be seen between them. The movie will be released in Japanese theaters on October 10.

In addition to the poster, the full cast of the movie was also revealed. We already knew that SixTONES idolHokuto Matsumura(Suzume) andMitsuki Takahata(Golden Kamuy) are playing protagonistsTono TakakiandAkari Shinohara, respectively. The new names announced for thelive-action featureincludeTakashi Okabe(In Love and Deep Water),Seina Nakata(Colors of Sisterhood),Kentaro Tamura(The Hot Spot),Junki Tozuka(Ensemble),Keiko Horiuchi(D&D: Doctor & Detective Criminal Investigation),Himi Sato(The Last Man: The Blind Profiler), andAyana Shiramoto(The Box Man).

As far as we know, the live-action5 Centimeters Per Secondwill follow the same structure as the 2007 anime movie. The story is divided into three segments, and they all chronicle the lives of Takaki and Akari. They meet as kids,fall in love, and then are forced apart.As they reach their adult lives, the two start to contemplate meeting each other again to discover how they feel after so many years apart.

Makoto Shinkai Is Already a Fan of the ‘5 Centimeters Per Second’ Live-Action

Even though the original anime movie director and screenwriterMakoto Shinkai(Your Name) has no direct participation in the adaptation, the Japanese filmmaker has already watched it and revealed he was “deeply moved” by what he saw. Last week,Shinkai praised the workof directorYoshiyuki Okuyamaand screenwriterAyako Suzuki. Shinkai stated he was “absorbed in the visuals” and thathe found himself crying by the end of it. So, long-time fans of the story can get hyped up about the adaptation.
