When it premiered, The CW’sLegends of Tomorrowhad so much potential as a team-up of favorites from other CW series. But though it had a very fun start, things fizzled out after the main villain, Vandal Savage, turned out to be toothless and boring, and the cast’s chemistry never quite gelled. But, when Season 1 closed by introducing Rex Tyler, a.k.a. Hourman (played bySuits’Patrick J. Adams), things started looking up. With the hawks out of the way and Vandal defeated, what might Season 2 look like?

At San Diego Comic Con, the panel forLegends of Tomorrowrevealed that the show’s villain problem is being solved by bringing in not just one great villain, but a whole team — the Legion of Doom. Its members will include Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher, who played the original Eobard Thawne onThe Flash, before he took over Harrison Wells 1.0’s body) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller). That is something to celebrate!

Having a group of heroes fighting was fun, but having a group of super-villains is much more interesting, especially since we already have a group of heroes fighting elsewhere (The Flash, Arrow, and now Supergirl). Having the Legion squaring off against the Justice Society is a pretty interesting set up for Season 2, and potentially a lot more compelling than a what Season 1 tried to do.

Speaking of the good guys, Hourman will be joined by Justice Society members Obsidian, Stargirl and Dr. Mid-Nite, who have yet to be cast. Those are some serious deep dives, but regardless, hopefully they will bring some new energy to the crew of the Waverider.

In a statement released today,

Legendsexecutive producer Marc Guggenheim said, “For season two ofLegends,we decided that the perfect antagonist for TV’s first-ever team of Super Heroes would be TV’s first-ever team of Super-Villains, recruited from the ranks ofArrowandThe Flash’s deadliest adversaries. Being huge fans of theChallenge of the Superfriends, we’ve come to call this group our ‘Legion of Doom.’”
