Hightownis having a surprise moment in the spotlight. The forgotten crime drama hasclimbed up to #4 onNetflix’s Top 10in the United Statesas of July 29, perFlixPatrol, leaving behind some pretty big titles, includingSquid Game, which released a new (and final) season just last month, and evenThe Sandman, which finally dropped its highly anticipated second season on July 24.
What’s even more surprising is thatHightownisn’t brand new.The series wrapped up its final season back in 2024and quietly faded from the spotlight. It only just landed on Netflix on July 23, and thanks to the platform’s massive reach, a prime spot on the homepage, and growing word-of-mouth buzz,Hightownhas quickly climbed the charts and found a whole new audience. The series follows Jackie Quiñones (Monica Raymund), a federal agent with the National Marine Fisheries Service who’s struggling withdrug and alcohol addiction. After a wild night out, she finds the corpse of a young woman washed up on the beach, which kicks off an investigation that ties directly into her addiction.
Although it’s not as widely recognized asJerry Bruckheimer’s more famous crime franchises likeCSI,Hightownstill earned decent critical praise. The series ran for three seasons and holds a solid 71% rating onRotten Tomatoes. It’s the kind ofgritty, emotionally heavy crime dramafans ofMare of Easttown,Bosch,Sharp Objects, andIn the Darktend to love.
How ‘Hightown’ Season 4 Could Happen
Now thatHightownis trending again,there’s real hope that its growing popularity could lead to a revival.The show was officially canceled after Season 3, which is a shame because it had its strongest season yet. According toIMDb, Season 1 episodes averaged a 7.5 rating, Season 2 went up to 7.7, and Season 3 hit an impressive 8.1 per episode.The numbers clearly show that the series was getting better over time.
If the momentum continues on Netflix,Hightowncould end up following the same path as other shows that made a comeback.Boschgot revived for a new spin-off series on Amazon Prime.Twin Peakswas brought back for a third season on Showtime years after its original run.Suitsalso got a spin-off calledSuits: LA, right on Netflix. Even Bruckheimer’s ownCSIfranchise was revived withCSI: Vegas. With strong viewership and renewed interest,Hightownhas a real shot at getting another season.
