We could soon be getting an early look at Oscar-winnerJ.K. Simmonsas DC Comics icon Commissioner Jim Gordon inZack Snyder’sJustice League. Simmons wrapped his part in the superhero team-up spectacular quite recently and revealed that fans should not expect a big chunk of screen time to be dedicated to the head of the Gotham PD.
In a talk withETabout his recent filmThe Meddler, which is out now on home video, Simmons talked about his time spent acting in big-budget superhero films and smaller independent films in equal measure. Of course, the conversation eventually turned toJustice League, which seems to have left Simmons quite pleased but perhaps wanting a bit more to chew on in future outings.

Here’s what Simmons had to say about filming his role inJustice Leagueand his current schedule:
My part is done. They are filming that for basically most of 2016, so some of the superheroes are still at work in jolly old London, but I’m back home with my family.

While the rest of theJustice Leaguehas been left behind, surely some of them are missing the Commish already, most notably Batman himself,Ben Affleck. Simmons talked briefly about his level of interaction with theLeaguemembers:
Yeah, mostly with Ben. In this first installment of theJustice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman – and with most of the Justice League. That was a really fun set.

Simmons also compared Snyder to his director onThe Meddler,Lorene Scafaria:
Zack [Snyder] runs sort of a big, happy family and it’s obviously, in many ways, a very different work environment when you’re working on a big, giant movie like that than a relatively small movie likeThe Meddler. But at the end of the day, the director is the one who sets the tone. And one of the things that Zack and Lorene [Scafaria] have in common is they’re just nice, smart, competent, fun people that you don’t mind spending a 12-hour day with.
Here’s what Simmons had to say about his take on Gordonin a previous chat, noting that he’ll “hopefully get to play Commissioner Gordon in a handful of movies” and revealing a bit about the character’s personality and physique:
“People of my generation remember Commissioner Gordon as this jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus type, and I think over the years in the comics there’s definitely much more of a badass side to him. One of the things that’s interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side]…You’re living in a universe where it’s pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy that’s a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the bat signal and goes, ‘Help! Help, Batman!’”
We’ll get to see Simmons in character alongside his caped crusader cohorts whenJustice Leaguehits theaters on August 08, 2025.
