Plenty of other familiar faces are returning behind the scenes, includingJohn Williams, the legendary film composer who scored the previous fourIndiana Jonesinstallments. ProducersKathleen KennedyandFrank Marshallare also returning.

Indiana Jones 5will be the first in the franchise not directed bySteven Spielberg, though he will join Kennedy and Marshall as a producer. Spielberg opted to pass the torch to a different director last year, with rumors that Mangold was being consideredas early as February. When Colliderspoke to Marshalllast year, he told us why Mangold was the perfect choice to take over.

“His love of the franchise. He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.” He went on to add that with Spielberg still involved, “we’ve got the best of everything.”

WriterDavid Koepp, who worked with Spielberg onIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulldropped out of the projectwhen Spielberg departed, withJonathan Kasdan(Solo: A Star Wars Story) stepping in to handle screenplay duties. This creates a kind of family tradition, as Kasdan’s father,Lawrence Kasdan, wrote the script for the first Indiana Jones film,Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Originally slated for release in 2019, the project has been pushed back a few times, with delays accumulating due to the COVID pandemic. The film is now set to release on August 16, 2025, with plans to begin principal photographythis spring.
