Penn Badgleymade a name for himself with witty one liners and ending messages with xoxo on the hit showGossip Girl.The actor was the titular character after all. But despite seven beautiful seasons ofGossip Girl, there is one thing fans love to talk about still: Dan Humphrey’s bad sideburns. Dan (who Badgley played) had a really odd side facial hair situation admitted that it was completely his choice. At leasthe seems a little confused as to why no one said anything to him about itor stopped him from making that choice.
Badgley was on theCall Her Daddypodcast and spoke with hostAlex Cooperwhen she brought up the sideburns that she said manymight think were “a prop”. But Badgley shared his side of the sideburns story. “If I could have seen — in real life — the side of my head, I guarantee you, I would have never, never,” Badgley said of his facial hair at the time. “You know, in the early 2000s, it was like, bootcut jeans with the low rise waist.There’s a look to a sideburnthat I always wanted. Like, the second I could grow facial hair, which happened to be early, it was like I wanted them. And it wasjust an aesthetic thingthat’s like, I only see my face from here,” he said, pointing to the side of his face.
He went on to talk about how the sideburns “gives me some age. Right? I have a baby face. I always wanted to look older.” Dan was supposed to be 16 years-old when the show started. Badgley himself was 21 years old but, to Badgley’s point, he did look like he fit right in in high school. Sideburns and all. But even though they had the desired effect, Badgley pointed out that they were an unfortunate look. “I mean, who allowed that? So many people allowed that.”
At Least Joe Goldberg Has Better Hair Choices?
There are a lot of negative things you can (and should) say about Badgley’s latest character. Badgley has been playing Joe Goldberg in the Netflix seriesYoufor five seasons and throughout its run,Joe has had some pretty great hair choices. And, much to Badgley’s point, Joe had longer curly hair and a full beard in Season 4 of the series. And he did end up looking like a man in his 30s for once. But hey,looking young isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Badgley!
