We’re probably not going to getaGhostbusterssequel, so I suppose the next best thing is to just make the existing movie longer. Sony has announced thatGhostbusters: Answer the Callwill be coming to Digital HD on September 27th and to 4K/Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 11th. The extended edition of the film will contain more than fifteen minutes of new footage. Whether this footage makes the film any better remains to be seen. Comedies rarely benefit from being made longer, and while I enjoyed spending time with these characters, I’m worried that the extended edition could rely more on the distracting cameos that diminished the overall film.

Thankfully, the Blu-ray will contain the theatrical version either way, and it’s jam-packed with special features. The Blu-ray will contain over three hours of extras including two gag reels, four deleted scenes, eleven alternate scenes, and over an hour of additional extended and alternate scenes “with Ultraviolet download” (not exactly sure why you need an Ultraviolet download, but that’s what the press release says). When Steve interviewed directorPaul Feig, we learned that the original cut was 3.5 hours, so it’s not surprising that there’s a wealth of deleted and alternate scenes.
