There have been countless deaths onGame of Thrones, and you can never underestimate the cruelty of the characters. After all, this is a show that pushed a child out a window in its very first episode. So perhaps it should come as no surprise that Ser Pounce, the cat belonging to the late King Tommen, is dead.

“Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive,” showrunnerDavid BeniofftellsEW. “So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”

“If you buy the super-extended, super-chargedGame of Thronesbox set that comes out, the death of Ser Pounce will be in there,” showrunnerDan Weissadds. “Just one whole episode devoted to the death of Ser Pounce.”

I’m trying to imagine what would be more diabolical than the fate Cersei dealt to that “Shame!” woman (I know she has a name; I just don’t care to find out what it is. It’s not like she’s a pivotal character), and I’ve got nothing.

While there is a superGame of Thronesbox set coming out this year, don’t expect more Pounce footage. The cat was, unsurprisingly, a pain in the ass to work with:

“That cat was really not fun to work with,“ Benioff says. “There’s a reason the phrase ‘like herding cats’ came into existence.”

“Dogs generally do what you ask them to do if they’re smart and well trained,” Weiss agrees. “Cats have their own agenda.”

So if you were hoping that theGame of Thronesuniverse held out some kind of safe haven for pets, there’s no such luck. In the world ofGame of Thrones, everything is terrible, everything is out to kill you, and the Night King will probably end up on the Iron Throne.
