After a holiday season theatrical run that earned nominations from the BAFTA Awards andScreen Actors Guild,Michael Mann’s latest hitFerrariis coming home. Neon announced that the biopic starringAdam Driveras struggling automobile magnateEnzo Ferrariwould beracing onto platforms for premium digital purchase and rental beginning tomorrow, January 23. Additionally, a physical release on Blu-ray and DVD is coming on March 12 including a few special features who want to dive into the finer details of the film.

Ferrariunfolds in the Summer of 1957 as Enzo’s life and company fall into turmoil. Bankruptcy looms over the factory he and his wifeLaura Ferraribuilt together and, on a more personal note, both are still reeling from the death of their young son Dino the previous year. Their marriage is on the rocks given Enzo’s affair withLina Lardiand his illegitimate son Piero. Hesees only one way to restore the Ferrari nameto glory -the Mille Miglia, a dangerous race through Italy that would serve as the perfect showcase for their vehicles. The stress of managing the racing team would only be compounded, however, when tragedy struck during the competition and Enzo found himself amid major legal troubles over his creation’s responsibilityfor the deadly crash.

The eventual physical release of the film will include featurettes that explorehow Mann recreated the Mille Migliaand the accident that ended the race for good, as well as the many vehicles featured during and outside the race. Interviews with cast members will also highlightthe excellent ensemble assembledfor the racing biopic. Aside from Driver,Ferrarifeatures a standout performance fromPenélope Cruzas Laura alongsideShailene Woodleyas Lardi,Gabriel LeoneasAlfonso De Portago,Sarah GadonasLinda Christian,Patrick DempseyasPiero Taruffi, andJack O’ConnellasPeter Collins.

‘Ferrari’ Marks Another Hit for Mann and Neon

Originally premiering at the Venice Film Festival,Ferrariwas a surprising pickup for the “very independent” Neon given its stellar cast and the director behind it. Mann was happy to havehis long-gestating passion projectmadeoutside the traditional studio system, however, and the partnership paid off for both parties, at least in the critical sense. While the filmspun out at the box officewith only $35.1 million globally, the film has been highly regarded by critics and audiences alike with a 72% critic score onRotten Tomatoes. Together with screenwriterTroy Kennedy Martin, Mann deliveredanother project that has been considered among his best work.

Neon has a strong slate of films this year withAva Duvernay’sOriginin theaters now andSeeking Mavis BeaconandStress Positionscurrently at Sundance, but viewers can revisitFerrariat home on digital starting tomorrow, January 23.
