Last week, it was reported that the controversialRHONJcouple has received around $3 million in tax liens according to documents and the IRS. The document alleges thatTeresa owes $303,889.20, whileLuis owes nearly $2.6 million. This came afterLuis was issued a lien for $161,523.94 in December, as reported byPEOPLE.

On Monday, March 31, Gia discussed the reports of her parents accumulating $3 million in debt to the IRS. She opened the conversation with, “We have had a lot of positive moments this week and some negative moments.I’m sure you all have seen the news.” Gia then deepened the discussion by sharing her side.
“My mom has been the sole provider for my sisters and I since the minute my father left for prison.She has been working her ass offto make sure that my sisters and I live a stable life and that my family is financially stable. Like I can’t stress enough how much my mom has worked.Everything will be resolved.”
The ‘RHONJ’ Stars’ Tax Lien Is Still An Open Case
News of Teresa’s and Luis’ legal trouble caused a reaction from a few Real Housewives stars.Bethenny Frankel posted an Instagram Reeladdressing the situation with the caption, “OMG no say this is not so,” which resulted in backlash fromDolores Catania. Gia also responded to the reel by saying, “Thank you so much for your sweet video.You are a mother with a daughter.I bet you wouldn’t like [it] if somebody was saying this about you.I hope that one thousand dollars TikTok paycheck was really worth it.And thanks. But we’re doing perfectly fine over here.”
Afer news broke out about theRHONJstars’ financial woes,Luis requested an extension on a $1 million loanhe took out on their home in Montville, New Jersey.The extension was granted, as it is now due in March 2026. However, according to a report fromThe U.S. Sunand Tax Controversy AttorneyAdam Brewer,his and Teresa’s paychecks fromRHONJcould beseized by the governmentifthe tax lien remains unpaid.

Another attorney has also revealed that because ofTeresa’s past prison sentence for fraud, her tax liencould put her back in the spotlight for the federal agents. Beverly Hills attorneyAdam Michael Sacksspoke toThe U.S. Sunabout how Teresa could find herself in trouble again because of her tax lien. “The real connection is if you’re dealing with the IRS,” he said. “She already committed fraud. They can say, ‘You already have a record of fraud.’ This may really stick with not just owing the money, but having a bigger problem.”
