The pressure is finally off forCountdownfans, who learned about the fate ofEric Dane’s Blythe in the most recent episode. After a knife attack by Volchek (Bogdan Yasinski) left the leader knocking on death’s door, this week’s installment revealed that he’s going to be just fine. But, just when we thought we could sink into our couches and watch the dynamite team of special agents go after the bad guys,Jensen Ackles’ Mark Meachum has us wiping the sweat from our brows. As strong as he’s been — fighting a largely solo battle against an ever-worsening brain tumor — Meachum nearly took a life-ending tumble off a roof in the latest episode thanks to his vertigo spells and headaches.
During arecent interview, theSupernaturalalum addressed where he thinks Mark is at with his diagnosis now more than halfway through the debut season.

“I think each one of these episodes that he has is a wake-up call. I thinkhe’s starting to really wrestle with his mortality, and as much as he can shove it away and shove it down, which is probably what he’s lived his life doing with any kind of feelings that aren’t comfortable, he’s becoming less and less able to hide it and to keep making up excuses for it because now it’s happening in front of others. So yeah, I think the veil is getting thinner and thinner.”
Over the first six episodes of the show’s debut season, Ackles’ special agent kept his diagnosis to himself. Then, during a bonding moment in episode seven, he finally opened up to his partner, Amber Oliveras (Jessica Camacho), sharing the real pain he had been dealing with this entire time. Currently, she’s the only one on the team who knows about his ongoing struggle, and Mark’s willingness to finally let someone in further added to theslow-burn romancethe pair have going.

Could Mark and Amber’s Relationship Be on the Rocks Before It Gets Started?
In thelatest episode, a new player entered the chat —Eddie Aguirre’s Julio, who was one of the doctors working to save Blythe’s life. While this is the first time audiences have met Julio, the character goes way back with Oliveras, placing an obstacle between herblossoming romancewith Mark. While Haas seemed hesitant to fully address the kind of man Julio is and where his relationship with Amber might go, he said,
“I think as anyone would be who met Oliveras and re-met her after being childhood friends, he’s probably like, ‘I remember that girl. She was amazing back then. She seems still amazing.’ Why wouldn’t you want to bump into her again? I think that he kind of speaks for any audience member watching this show. So yeah, it is a complication because he is not a bad dude. He seems like a great guy.”
