With recent news thatCluelesswould be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a4K UHD SteelBook release, fans of the iconic 90s movie were feeling a bit old. To be fair, a revamped version of the movie bursting at the seams with extras was a very good consolation prize, butAlicia Silverstoneand Peacock are doing us even better. Today, word broke that aCluelessseries is in the works with Silverstone set to reprise her role as the one and only Cher Horowitz. In addition to reprising her career-starting role, Silverstone will also executive produce the project alongside the original film’s writer and director,Amy Heckerling, and producer,Robert Lawrence. Adding that extra bit of edge to the follow-up chapter will fall into the hands ofGossip Girl’sJosh SchwartzandStephanie Savage, who will pen the series and also add their names as executive producers.

True fans will know that this is far from the first time thatCluelesshas made its way onto the small screen. Thanks to the immense popularity of the original film, which also served as a career stepping stone for favorites likePaul Ruddand the late, greatBrittany Murphy, Paramount Network Television transferred the story into a 30-minute comedy series in 1996 — just one year after the movie arrived in cinemas. The series, which was created by Heckerling, ran for three seasons between ABC and UPN, withRachel Blanchard(The Summer I Turned Pretty) tossing on some fashionable duds and stepping into the role of Cher as Silverstone was extremely booked and busy following the original feature.

Although Silverstone was unable to reprise the role of Cher (as she was prepping for her turn as Batgirl inJoel Schumacher’s notoriousBatman & Robin),Stacey Dashwas free and more than willing to reappear as Dionne in the small-screen offshoot. Dash was hoping to dance with Dionne again just a few years back for a differentCluelessepisodic reboot that would’ve centered the story around Cher’s bestie, but it eventually ended up on the cutting room floor.

What Will the ‘Clueless’ Series Be About?

Right now, it isn’t abundantly clear what we’ll be getting into with theCluelessseries. Aside fromSilverstone’s reprisal of Cher, no other original actors have been announced at this time. There’s a solid chance that Dash will be game to join the fold again, and we hope that the project will find a good way to pay homage to Murphy, who passed away in 2009. If you’re thinking what we’re thinking, there’s also a chance that Cher ended up with her ex-step-brother-turned-boyfriend, Josh (Rudd), which — despite being one of thestrangest and most disturbing storylinesto come from the decade — could make for a star-studded reunion in theCluelessuniverse.

Stay tuned to Collider for more information.

Shallow, rich and socially successful Cher is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale. Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other.
