Ariana Grandehas been more creatively busy than ever. Following the release of her seventh studio album,Eternal Sunshine, last year and her well-received performance asGlindain theJon M. Chu-helmedWickedfilm (which will soon return for a second part this November 21), the Grammy winner is officially closing the door on a past era to usher in a new one with the release of the futuristicbrighter days aheadshort film. The 26-minute visual, written and directed byChristian Breslauerand Grande herself, comes shortly after the release ofEternal Sunshine’s deluxe edition.

The short film brings viewers back to Peaches, a character first seen in theEvan Peters-starring “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” music video, and what transpired after she decided to wipe her memories off at the Brighter Days center. Only this time, 70 years after the events of the first video, the corporation has grown into a more advanced memory-wiping center dedicated to helping people erase painful memories while keeping all of the good ones. A nurse accompanies an elderly Peaches into a room where she relives all her happy memories from her early years to the peak of her singing career using a cutting-edge device. However, there’s one sorrowful catch: once she watches a specific memory, it’s gone forever.

‘Eternal Sunshine’ Is Arguably Ariana Grande’s Best Studio Album Yet

Grande first gained mainstream attention during her stint as Cat Valentine inNickelodeon’sVictorious, where she starred alongsideVictoria Justice,Avan Jogia, and more. She then released her debut studio album in 2013 calledYours Truly, which debuted to commercial success. She went on to release five more albums (My Everything,Dangerous Woman,Sweetener,Thank U, Next, andPositions), withEternal Sunshineserving as her latest. While all of the pop star’s studio albums were commercially successful in their own rights,Eternal Sunshine— which she dropped in March 2024 — provides a new look on Grande as an artist. Complete with compelling visuals and singles that have performed well at the music charts,Eternal Sunshineis a sublime musical journey. Most of the music critics, moreover, praise the seventh studio album as it showcases Grande in her most vulnerable yet.

The deluxe version ofEternal Sunshine(calledEternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead) features additional tracks, including an extended version of “Intro (End of the World),” “Twilight Zone,” “Warm,” “Dandelion,” “Past Life,” and “Hampstead.” You can watch thebrighter days aheadshort film above.
