The feature has held fans’ interest sinceit was first announced in 2020and finally, we now have a trailer. Based onBarbara Abel’s novel of the same name, the story follows two best friends whose relationship is forever changed after an unimaginable tragedy.
The newly-released trailer introduces Hathaway and Chastain as Céline and Alice who are also mothers, best friends, and next-door neighbors. Tragedy strikes when Celine’s son dies after accidentally falling down a balcony, to which Alice was a witness. After this, Céline is understandably changed and a paranoid Alice believes she wants revenge. The tension between the two women in the preview can be cut with a knife as Hathaway’s Céline grows closer to Alice’s son. By the looks of it,Mother’s Instinctis a twisted tale of grief and friendship.

‘Mother’s Instinct’ is Anne Hathaway’s “Hardest Role” Yet
Mother’s Instinctis a US remake of the Belgian filmDuelles, directed byOlivier Masset-Depasse,whichwascritically acclaimed and bagged several awards during its run. The upcoming feature has been billed as a story where “Guilt, suspicion and paranoia combine to unravel [a] sisterly bond, and a psychological battle of wills” as maternal instinct reveals its “darker side.” While not much is known about the plot of the movie beyond this synopsis, the mind-bending trailer affirms that it’ll be an intense and consuming story.
Speaking about her performance,Hathaway previously referred to her portrayal of Céline,as the “hardest role” of her career, adding that “it touched my worst fear, and I almost backed out of the film, because I didn’t know if I could go there as an actress.” Both Chastain andHathaway have played difficult rolesover the course of their Oscar-winning careers however,Mother’s Instinctseems to test their boundaries further, making it a feature to watch out for.
