Following the super-successful run of the award-winningAdventure Time, the spin-offFionna and Cakewas brought to life onMax, premiering two years ago, on June 25, 2025. Theanimated serieswas later renewed for a sophomore season in December, but without a release date, which should be announced soon. In the meantime, the streamer has unveiled a first look at the new season, hinting at another fan-favorite character joining the titular pair on theirnext adventure.
As seen in the sneak peek below via Cartoon Network on x (formerly Twitter), Fionna and Cake might have a third wheel, who isn’t the Ice King, when the animated comedy returns. That character is the Huntress Wizard fromthe original CN series. This comes months after Warner Bros. Animation’s Animatic Editor,Nick Lomauro, revealed thatAdventure Time: Fionna and Cakewould wrap productionin late May to early June of this year.

If you missed the debut season of the animated spin-off,Adventure Time: Fionna and Caketakes place years after the original show, focusing on the human Fionna in a world quite like our own as she finds herself dragged into an adventure within the multiverse. Joined by Simon, the one-time Ice King, and eventually running into Cake the Cat, the trio attempts to save the multiverse from a larger-than-life threat. The installment currently holds a 100% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising itsfaithfulness toAdventure Time.
What to Expect in ‘Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake’ Season 2
As fans count down to the return of the action-adventure, we’ve learned a bit of what can be expected, mainly more focus on Fionna’s original universe. Series showrunnerAdam Mutosaid as much earlier this summer at theAnnecy International Film Festival, where he discussed the new season. Confirming the Huntress Wizard’s expanded role inAdventure Time: Fionna and Cake,Muto stated that they are planning to focus far more on Fionna’s own world, meaning the trio might just be the strangest characters of the series. “This time,we wanted to keep most of the adventures in Fiona’s world,” he said of the upcoming change. “And I thought that would make it more normal, but it’s still pretty strange. And that’s kind of baked into ‘Adventure Time’ DNA.”
