Because of strict censorship rules at the time, each of the first three versions ofA Star is Bornwas unable to truly dive into the issues at the heart of the story. Thankfully, in 2018,Cooper’s exploration of substance abuseis much more thorough, leading to a film that is both musically dazzling and heartwrenching in its drama.
