Reality television hit its peak when the originalJersey Shoreaired back in 2009, and we may never see golden and authentic reality TV like it ever again. Nowadays, it seems as though reality stars struggle to be their true, authentic selves while being filmed for various reasons. They may be influenced by their social media presence, a certain image they feel they need to maintain, or simply a fear of being judged if they decide to show their real personality to the world. It feels as though the world of reality television is slowly devolving into brand deals and inauthenticity, which is why I will always believe thatJersey Shoreis the perfect example of real, raw reality TVthat we desperately need back.

Amid this crazy summer heatwave, I found myself deciding to rewatchJersey Shore.I forgot just how amazing and truly entertaining it is. So many hilarious and surreal moments happened throughout the six seasons that they left my jaw hanging on the floor, even though I have seen them hundreds of times. This is what reality television should be all about:authentic moments in people’s lives that create shock valuefor their viewers. It still baffles me to this day that certain moments aired on television. That is how crazy and chaoticJersey Shorewas. I miss that era of reality television.

‘Jersey Shore’s Authenticity Made for Iconic Reality TV

I miss when reality television left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. As I said before, when I watchedJersey Shoreagain recently, I was stunned because it is hard to comprehend how certain scenes actually aired on television. From the public intoxication that led to multiple arrests throughout the seasons (includingNicole “Snooki” PolizziandDeena Nicole Buckner)toRonnie Ortiz-Magrobragging about knocking another man out cold in the middle of the boardwalk, there was never a dull moment. I mean, Snooki andJenni “JWoww” Farleypeed in a club… on camera. That level of chaotic entertainment will never be shown on television again.Mike “The Situation” Sorrentinoknocked himself out by running headfirst into a wall in Italy.Pauly Dcreated some of the catchiest phrases that are still being used today, such as “Gym, Tan, Laundry” and “Cabs are here.“This cast gave us everything, and they werenever afraid to be their true selvesdespite the backlash they may have received.
