BoJack Horsemangets away with a lot. As a character,Will Arnett’s perfectly performed anthropomorphic horse-man is a stand-in for a rich, privileged White man who was once a part of the Hollywood elite and has since fallen on relatively hard times. Much like the contemporary face of the patriarchy he represents, BoJack is rarely forced to face his demons, and even when he is, there’s always an out. As a show, the animated Netflix series hides its disdain with accepted sociocultural norms in plain sight, masked only by the fact that its characters are mostly funny-looking animorphs....

Breaking Badis pretty much a perfect series.Vince Gilliganand his team of writers knew the arc of the show, but they didn’t plan everything out, giving the story enough structure to tell a compelling narrative, but flexible enough to maneuver and make strong choices. One of the best choices was choosing to build on the relationship between protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his former-student-turned-accomplice Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Jesse was famously supposed to die at the end of the first season, but Gilligan wisely saw the potential in the character and the strength of Paul’s performance, and now it’s impossible to think ofBreaking Badwithout the dynamic between Walt and Jesse....
